Mike Bayer 3209a73b92 - Mapped state internals have been reworked to allow for a 50% reduction
in callcounts specific to the "expiration" of objects, as in
the "auto expire" feature of :meth:`.Session.commit` and
for :meth:`.Session.expire_all`, as well as in the "cleanup" step
which occurs when object states are garbage collected.
fixes #3307

Mike Bayer 1b25ed907f - merge ticket_1418 branch, [ticket:1418]
- The system of loader options has been entirely rearchitected to build
upon a much more comprehensive base, the :class:`.Load` object. This
base allows any common loader option like :func:`.joinedload`,
:func:`.defer`, etc. to be used in a "chained" style for the purpose
of specifying options down a path, such as ``joinedload("foo").subqueryload("bar")``.
The new system supersedes the usage of dot-separated path names,
multiple attributes within options, and the usage of ``_all()`` options.
- Added a new load option :func:`.orm.load_only`. This allows a series
of column names to be specified as loading "only" those attributes,
deferring the rest.

Mike Bayer 20cdc64588 trying different approaches to test layout. in this one, the testing modules
become an externally usable package but still remains within the main sqlalchemy parent package.
in this system, we use kind of an ugly hack to get the noseplugin imported outside of the
"sqlalchemy" package, while still making it available within sqlalchemy for usage by
third party libraries.

Mike Bayer 3dd536ac06 - [feature] The of_type() construct on attributes
now accepts aliased() class constructs as well
as with_polymorphic constructs, and works with
query.join(), any(), has(), and also
eager loaders subqueryload(), joinedload(),
contains_eager()
[ticket:2438] [ticket:1106]
- a rewrite of the query path system to use an
object based approach for more succinct usage. the system
has been designed carefully to not add an excessive method overhead.
- [feature] select() features a correlate_except()
method, auto correlates all selectables except those
passed. Is needed here for the updated any()/has()
functionality.
- remove some old cruft from LoaderStrategy, init(),debug_callable()
- use a namedtuple for _extended_entity_info. This method should
become standard within the orm internals
- some tweaks to the memory profile tests, number of runs can
be customized to work around pysqlite's very annoying behavior
- try to simplify PropertyOption._get_paths(), rename to _process_paths(),
returns a single list now. overall works more completely as was needed
for of_type() functionality

Mike Bayer e3dbb87d94 - move _fixtures to work via the normal methods of _base.MappedTest, convert
all referncing tests to not use globals
- tests that deal with pickle specifically load the fixture classes
from test.lib.pickleable, which gets some more classes added
- removed weird sa05 pickling tests that don't matter

Mike Bayer 58b2939433 - sqlalchemy.test and nose plugin moves back to being entirely
outside of "sqlalchemy" and under "test/".

Rationale:

- coverage plugin works without issue, without need for an awkward
additional package install
- command line for "nosetests" isn't polluted with SQLAlchemy options

Mike Bayer 1675811029 - To accomodate the fact that there are now two kinds of eager
loading available, the new names for eagerload() and
eagerload_all() are joinedload() and joinedload_all(). The
old names will remain as synonyms for the foreseeable future.

- The "lazy" flag on the relationship() function now accepts
a string argument for all kinds of loading: "select", "joined",
"subquery", "noload" and "dynamic", where the default is now
"select". The old values of True/
False/None still retain their usual meanings and will remain
as synonyms for the foreseeable future.

- Added documentation to tutorial,mapper doc, api docs
for subqueryload, subqueryload_all, and other options.

Mike Bayer 065fcbd9d2 - The official name for the relation() function is now
relationship(), to eliminate confusion over the relational
algebra term. relation() however will remain available
in equal capacity for the foreseeable future. [ticket:1740]

Mike Bayer b729503a3e - merge() will not issue a needless merge of attributes if the
given instance is the same instance which is already present.

- merge() now also merges the "options" associated with a given
state, i.e. those passed through query.options() which follow
along with an instance, such as options to eagerly- or
lazyily- load various attributes. This is essential for
the construction of highly integrated caching schemes. This
is a subtle behavioral change vs. 0.5.

- A bug was fixed regarding the serialization of the "loader
path" present on an instance's state, which is also necessary
when combining the usage of merge() with serialized state
and associated options that should be preserved.

- The "query_cache" examples have been removed, and are replaced
with a fully comprehensive approach that combines the usage of
Beaker with SQLAlchemy. New query options are used to indicate
the caching characteristics of a particular Query, which
can also be invoked deep within an object graph when lazily
loading related objects.  See /examples/beaker_caching/README.

Mike Bayer eb6f1f87f6 deprecations per [ticket:1498]:
- deprecated PassiveDefault - use DefaultClause.
- the BINARY and MSBinary types now generate "BINARY" in all
cases. Omitting the "length" parameter will generate
"BINARY" with no length. Use BLOB to generate an unlengthed
binary column.
- the "quoting='quoted'" argument to MSEnum/ENUM is deprecated.
It's best to rely upon the automatic quoting.
- "shortname" attribute on bindparam() is removed.
- fold_equivalents flag on join is deprecated (will remain
until [ticket:1131] is implemented)
- "scalar" flag on select() is removed, use
select.as_scalar().
- 'transactional' flag on sessionmaker() and others is
removed. Use 'autocommit=True' to indicate 'transactional=False'.
- 'polymorphic_fetch' argument on mapper() is removed.
Loading can be controlled using the 'with_polymorphic'
option.
- 'select_table' argument on mapper() is removed. Use
'with_polymorphic=("*", <some selectable>)' for this
functionality.
- 'proxy' argument on synonym() is removed. This flag
did nothing throughout 0.5, as the "proxy generation"
behavior is now automatic.
- Passing a single list of elements to eagerload(),
eagerload_all(), contains_eager(), lazyload(),
defer(), and undefer() instead of multiple positional
-args is deprecated.
- Passing a single list of elements to query.order_by(),
query.group_by(), query.join(), or query.outerjoin()
instead of multiple positional *args is deprecated.
- query.iterate_instances() is removed.  Use query.instances().
- Query.query_from_parent() is removed. Use the
sqlalchemy.orm.with_parent() function to produce a
"parent" clause, or alternatively query.with_parent().
- query._from_self() is removed, use query.from_self()
instead.
- the "comparator" argument to composite() is removed.
Use "comparator_factory".
- RelationProperty._get_join() is removed.
- the 'echo_uow' flag on Session is removed. Use
logging on the "sqlalchemy.orm.unitofwork" name.
- session.clear() is removed.  use session.expunge_all().
- session.save(), session.update(), session.save_or_update()
are removed. Use session.add() and session.add_all().
- the "objects" flag on session.flush() remains deprecated.
- the "dont_load=True" flag on session.merge() is deprecated
in favor of "load=False".
- passing an InstanceState (internal SQLAlchemy state object) to
attributes.init_collection() or attributes.get_history() is
deprecated. These functions are public API and normally
expect a regular mapped object instance.
- the 'engine' parameter to declarative_base() is removed.
Use the 'bind' keyword argument.
